DESCRIPTION: Length up to 11mm. This elongate and somewhat flattened species is an iridescent emerald beauty with the elytra distinctly gaping and the swollen femurs of the males a sight to behold. Alternative names include 'Swollen Thighed Beetle' and 'Thick Legged Flower Beetle'. BEHAVIOUR: A species that likes to feed on pollen and fly from plant to plant on sunny days. DISTRIBUTION: A southern species that is quite widely distributed. HABITAT: Flower meadows, woodland edges, hedgerows and waste ground. PERIOD: Can be seen from late April to September but June and July are the main months to witness this beautiful beetle.
